My total support for Governor Godwin Obaseki is purely in the collective interest of the people of Edo State based on the agreement reached with Comrade Adams Oshiomhole during the process of my being nominated as a running mate. Nothing personal about it.

These revelations were made by Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu when the leadership of Uzairue Elites Club visited him in his office at the Government House, Benin City. Leader of the delegation and Acting President of the club, Barry Adams said they were in Government House as part of the moves to broker peace between their two prominent sons who have been having some political disagreements for close to a year. According to the Acting President, ” We are not happy with what is happening between our two prominent sons. We are proud of them, given their strategic positions in government. In fact, we have never had it so good. It was not by our doing but God. But we are worried and highly concerned by the ugly developments going on between them. This is why we are here to find a lasting solution to it. I know God will use us to touch their hearts and they will sheath their sods. We are also going to hold a similar meeting with former Governor, Adams Oshiomhole.”

In his response, Comrade Philip Shaibu said he does not have anything personal against Comrade Oshiomhole, what I’m doing is strictly what both of us agreed on before I was made the running mate to Godwin Obaseki in 2016.” The Deputy Governor went further to say that ” as if I saw this coming when I asked him that in case of any political disagreement, where would I stand? Comrade told me strait away without mincing words that I should always be with my boss the Governor. He said he did not expect anything less than 100 per cent loyalty to the governor.

But, let me say this that in case he made a mistake by making Obaseki the Governor of Edo State, he has to learn to live with it because taking out Obaseki now is nothing but a day dream. Despite this, Comrade remains my father. I can’t do anything that will hurt him but on this issue on ground, my loyalty remains with the Governor based on the agreement with him (Comrade). As a person and as a government, we are not averse to settlement. There is still room for settlement if Comrade wants it. As I said, if the father summons us today, as the children, we will have no option than to respond to his call. Anything, we are ready. I have nothing personal against Comrade, what I’m doing today is on principal. This disagreement has not gone beyond settlement. There is still room to resolve ourselves before the primary election”.

He appreciated the leadership of the club for their concern and finding time to come and see him with a view to settling their sons.
