ASABA – Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has called on the Federal Government to adopt a more proactive meachures in addressing the issue of farmers/ herders clash to avoid the massive Killings of Nigerians

Okowa, at the 2020 Quarterly Media interaction with Journalists in Asaba on Thursday said he does not believe the anti-grazing bill has solved the farmers/ herders clash.

“The Federal Government need to have the political will to mange all persons involved because a strong will on the part of FG would bring such incident to a barest minimum and I hope they will become more proactive ” he stressed.

The governor stated that he had been in the vanguard showing interest for regional security because to me, it is necessary tools to solve security challenges in the South/ South region.

“Security has been challenging, a lot has been done but there is still a lot to be done. The need for a security outfit is necessitated as states in the region are connected through facilities, roads and waterways in such a shared manner” he said.

To the influx of the rapid spread of Coronavirus around countries, Governor Okowa disclosed that a continuous spread of the disease could have adverse effect on the budget of the state.

He mentioned that the state is faced with challenges with implementation of the budget prepared early in the year as calculated oil prices upon which the budget was prepared has dropped.

According to Okowa, “The events in the past few weeks has threatened implementation of the budget as most of our revenue comes from oil, with the virus most of our oil are not sold as the price reduces”.

He, however, expressed hope that there would be a fast remedy to the virus which has ravaged the global economy, adding: “we hope this does not go on for too long so we do not have a repetition of the 2016 recession”.
