The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association has commended the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for his administration’s policies and reforms, which have continued to attract investment in livestock production.

Chairman, Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, Edo State branch, Dr. Emmanuel Chikwe, gave the commendation, during a courtesy visit to the governor in Benin City.

He expressed appreciation to the governor for supporting the organization to secure the hosting right of the association’s National Congress.

According to him, “Edo State will be hosting the National Congress for the first time since the creation of the state. The congress will hold on 26th to 30th of October 2020.”

Dr. Emmanuel said the Congress will attract both local and international delegates and investors who will visit and take advantage of the governor’s investment in animal production, hatchery and drug production.

He added that the congress is in line with the initiatives of Governor Obaseki to attract investors to the state.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Richard Edebiri, said several programmes are in place to reposition the agriculture sector in the state.

He said the state government is making progress in repositioning the sector to contribute immensely to the state’s Gross Domestic Products (GDP).

Edebiri reassured that the Obaseki-led administration was working assiduously to tackle the challenges of access to credit, substance farming, capacity building for farmers and infrastructural deficit in the sector through the state’s Agripreneur programme.

Obaseki noted that his administration is repositioning the College of Agriculture, Iguoriakhi to train the requisite manpower to run the agricultural sector, adding that the government recently approved the renovation and furnishing of a centre to serve as headquarters for the veterinary service.
