BENIN CITY – As the world is battling for survival in the ugly hands of Covid-19, a non charitable organization First Vibrant Integrated Services( FVIS) in their strong desire to always impact the world around them, in collaboration with Midnight Prayer Christian Network have come out to support government’s palliative efforts by distributing food items to some residents in Benin to cushion the effects of social restrictions and other precautionary measures put in place by government in its fight against the spread of the dreaded coronavirus pandemic.

Members of the team of donors led by the Chief Operation officer and Coordinator in Nigeria,Apostle Johnson Osas Ohenhen were seen distributing food items ,facemask and sanitizer to people indiscriminately in parts of Benin including Ogida-Siluko Road,Umelu-St. Saviour area of Sokponba Road and Ogba-Airport,Erhumwunsee areas on Sunday.

Other areas covered by FVIS include Ekiadolor, Ugbowo,Akpakpava, parts of Ovia North East and Ikpoba-Okha Local Government areas,Giwa Amu in GRA and four Orphanages- Oronsaye,Amadin,Trinity and My Mummy Homes among others.

The items distributed include Garri,Rice,Beans with Groundnut oil, Onions and seasonings. In addition, facemasks and hand sanitizer were distributed to the people.

The aged and mothers with children were the major target of beneficiaries as it was a door to door services.
Apart from the food items distributed,Apostle Ohenhen and his team also took time out sensitise the people to adhere to government directives and respect all the precautionary measures put in place by government aimed at curbing the spread of the dreaded virus as directed by the CEO of the Microfinance Organization, Engr O.P. Amawhe.

Speaking with the Nigerian Observer,Apostle Ohenhen who said that his team has been able to reach out to over 1,000 families since Easter Sunday they started the food distribution exercise,revealed that though his organization is a microfinance entity based in Lagos but were moved by the weight of the global pandemic and the accompanying debilitating economic effects on the people to come to his state,Edo to support government believing that government can not do all alone.

” We all know how difficult it is for some of our people to cope in normal situation not to talk of now that there is outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic that has put the entire globe in confusion. And millions of Nigerians are finding it very difficult to eat one square meal a day, particularly with the Lockdown and other forms of restriction order given by the Government. Many don’t have access to their place of work again, and that has made it more difficult especially the artisans and the Vulnerables in the society.

Again, most Nigerians have emptied their little savings, and they don’t know who to run to for help. Though the government is doing their best to cushion the effects, but you know that government alone cannot do it. That’s the reason why we have decided to join hands with government to see how we can reach out to the needies in our various communities in this way at least to support them.” Ohenhen explained.

Some of the beneficiaries,while responding to FVIS kind gesture, said they were happy to receive the package and
prayed for the donors, saying that they were only watching on television that government is distributing food items and money but that they were yet to get. They advised that government should direct their officials to do a door to door exercise while giving out any assistance to the public especially as the plan compulsory covid-19 testing.
