A Professor of Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantology, Godwin Nosakhare Bazuaye has assumed office as the new Chief Medical Director of Nigeria’s first private teaching hospital, Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital (IUTH), Okada.

Prof. Bazuaye’s appointment is part of the ongoing repositioning of the medical institution.
The new CMD who has over 23 years experience in teaching, research and administration in University and teaching Hospitals, pioneered the first successful stem cell transplant for the cure of sickle cell in sub sahara Africa and the only African who is an international JACIE inspector for the accreditation of hospitals in Europe and Africa.

Confirming the appointment in a ceremomy, the Deputy Chancellor, Igbinedion University, Okada, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, charged the new CMD and his team to make the institution a citadel of medical excellence in service delivery and innovative research in line with the dream of the founding father, His Excellency, Sir, Chief, Dr. Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin kingdom.

With the current global focus on the health sector as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Chief Igbinedion enjoined the new management team of the premier private teaching hospital to re-launch the facility as the pride of Edo state and a destination of medical tourism. “My mandate to your team today, which should be of utmost priority, is to make this hospital the best tertiary health care facility in Nigeria”, Chief Igbinedion urged the new IUTH management.

In his acceptance speech, the new CMD, Prof. Godwin Bazuaye, thanked the Deputy Chancellor and the Board of the teaching hospital for finding him worthy to champion the repositioning of the Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital, Okada.

Prof. Bazuaye recalled as a medical student and a medical officer in the nineties how the IUTH, Okada held sway as referral medical centre for medical tourism in sub-Sahara Africa and promised to deploy his wealth of experience in restoring the institution’s glory and a higher height.

Until his appointment, Prof. Bazuaye was a Consultant Haematologist at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH.

Other principal officers appointed include: Director of Finance and Accounts, Mr. Yahaya Sule and Public Relations Officer, Mr. Moses Uyi Osaretin.
