BENIN CITY-The Edo Police Command said it has beefed up security in the state ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primary taking place in Benin City, today.

As part of its preparations, detachments of mobile policemen have been deployed from Bayelsa and Delta States to complement efforts of operatives of the command.

The command Public Relations Officer DSP Chidi Nwabuzor disclosed this to newsmen at his office in Benin City, yesterday.

DSP Nwabuzor explained that the deployment of additional manpower followed the approval of the request of Edo State commissioner of police CP Johnson Babatunde Kokumo to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu in Abuja.

Assuring of adequate security before, during and after today’s PDP primary, the police spokesman also stated that apart from the additional external operatives, all tactical teams like SCIB, SCIID, men of Area Commands, Divisional headquarters of the command have all been mobilised.

He further noted that the command in efforts towards achieving a hitch free exercise, had synergized with other sister security agencies like the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, 1079 Maritime group, Immigration, Department of State Services (DSS) ,PUWOV, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo State.

“The Edo State Police Command in collaboration with other sister security agencies is fully prepared and ready for tomorrow (today) PDP primary.

“We are doing all this because it is better to be proactive than being reactive”. DSP Nwabuzor explained.

He however described as perfect the security put in place by the command during and after the primary of the factional All Progressives Congress (APC) held last Monday in the state.

DSP Nwabuzor expressed confidence that the command would replicate the achievement during and after the state PDP primary today and others that might follow.
