…Edo guber poll will redefine democracy in Nigeria – Betsy Obaseki

Senator Daisy Ehanire Danjuma has urged Edo electorate to come out en masse for the Saturday September 19 gubernatorial election and vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to enable Governor Godwin Obaseki, candidate of the party consolidate on his first term achievements in all sectors of the state.

Senator Danjuma, who represented Edo South Senatorial District in the Senate from 2003-2007, made the call while speaking to journalists in Benin City, Edo State capital.

According to Danjuma, who is a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, “Politics should not be about the party but about the individual who has done well; this is why I support Governor Godwin Obaseki for continuity. Anybody who has done well deserves a second term.”

“I don’t see any reason why a performing governor should not have a second term. The former Governor, Adams Oshiomhole fought godfathers in the state and now we are independent and will not allow godfatherism to thrive again. No man is God; it is God who chooses a ruler.”

“The election in Edo State lies in the hands of Edo people; democracy is government of the people, by the people and for the people. Government is not a one or two-man affair and nobody can say ‘I will not let anybody rule in this place’ because really, it is all about us.

“We don’t want a violent election in Edo State but a peaceful election; we don’t need to buy more guns but use our resources to feed the poor because most Nigerians are living in poverty,” she added.

Calling for massive turnout of voters on election day to ensure victory for the governor, Danjuma added: “Let us all come out en masse on September 19, 2020, and use our Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to vote for the candidate of our choice with confidence so that the will of the people will prevail.

“Governor Obaseki has done well and his second term is non-negotiable. Other past governors served two tenures, hence, I don’t know why even a more performing governor should not be given a second term.”

“Any governor who performs well must continue. I urge you all to go out there to talk to those around you to vote for PDP,” she charged.

On her part, Edo First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki expressed confidence that the governor will emerge victorious, noting that the guber poll will redefine democracy in the country.

She stressed: “We know that when all of these battles are won, politics in Nigeria will be redefined and cleaned, and the right people who have the capacity, knowledge and the patriotic heart and mind will come into politics to better the lives of everyone by bringing development to their communities, states and the country in general.”
