LAGOS – In the efforts to quell the violent protests by the #EndSARS movement in some parts of Lagos on Monday, stray bullets reportedly killed a man and a police officer in mufti at Ojuelegba and Surulere areas of the state.

It wasgathered that the dead civilian was an innocent mechanic whose car was stuck in the traffic caused by the protest, and the injured policeman was identified by the protesters as a SARS officer mistakenly shot by his colleagues.

Meanwhile, some of the protesters were arrested, including popular musician, Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman aka Oxlade and his manager.

Reports say Oxlade was injured before his arrest and there are video recordings of suspected officers in mufti dragging him on the road to the police station.

Also, motorists coming in and going out of Lagos were badly affected by the protests which halt the traffic at Ojodu/Berger axis of Lagos-Ibadan expressway for over six hours despite the presence of different armed security operatives quelling the huge protesters.

While the protest was on at Lekki and Surulere areas, there was another protest on Twitter as Hip-Pop musician Davido disclosed the outcome of his intervention meeting with police authorities in Abuja.

He said that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu had given him the go-ahead to set up an independent panel for evaluation of SARS officers.

The police expressed shock at the persistency of the protesters after the IGP had announced on Sunday that SARS has been dissolved nationwide and promised to embark on reforms working with civil society groups to end police brutality.
