The Edo House of Assembly on Wednesday commuted the impeachment of the recently impeached speaker of the House, Rt.Hon.Francis Okiye to resignation.

The House also recalled Okiye from suspension who later joined the lawmakers during plenary

The reversal of the impeachment followed a motion moved by the leader of the House, Hon. Henry Okhuarobo and seconded by the member representing Esan North East 11, Hon. Emmanuel Okoduwa .

Moving the motion, Hon. Okhuarobo said the need to reverse the impeachment became imperative due to appeals from their constituents

Consequently, the motion which enjoyed the overwhelming support of the members was thereafter adopted by the House.

The speaker, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun told newsmen shortly after plenary that the house was united adding that, there was no rift between the executive and the legislature in the state.

On his part, the immediate past speaker, Hon. Francis Okiye said he was pleased with the decision of the house.

He expressed his readiness to work with the present leadership of the house for the good of his constituency.

Meanwhile, the member representing Esan North East 11, Mr Emmanuel Okoduwa had been appointed as the chief Whip of the house.

Also during plenary yesterday, the house approved the upward review of the state government’s request of 20 billion naira to 25 billion naira to meets its obligations to people of Edo state .

It will be recalled that the house had earlier in March 2020 approved a request of 20 billion naira capital funds for the government .
