BENIN CITY- The Benin Technical College old students Association, North America has donated twenty all in one HP computers installed with Microsoft office and two industrial printers to the ICT centre of the institution.

Making the presentation on behalf of the President, Benin Technical College old students Association, North America, Mr. Martin Idemudia, a past president of Benin Technical College old students Association worldwide, 2016-2018, Professor Deborah Odejimi disclosed that the donation is to compliment and support His Excellency, Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki in his efforts to revamping Technical Education in Edo State.

“We made a commitment to the state government about one year ago to donate computers to the ICT centre to compliment and support His Excellency, Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki in his efforts to revamping Technical Education in Edo State. This is the fulfillment of that promise.

“Our vision of the new information society is to help bridge the digital divide between the information rich and the information poor with a view to increasing employment opportunities and overcoming social inequalities.

“Today, we are delighted to donate twenty All-in-One HP computers installed with Microsoft office and two industrial printers to the ICT centre. We understand that government cannot do it all alone hence the need for synergy” she noted.

While adding that the old students are committed to doing more for their Alma-Mater, she said the Benin Technical College old students Association, North America also Known as BETECOSA NA started in 2011 with few friends who graduated from Benin Technical College residing in New Jersey and New York metropolis.

“Today, this association is registered as an NJ501c nonprofit organization and known as Benin Technical College old students’ Association North America (BETESCOSA-NA)

“Our members are drawn from the United States of America and Canada with the main objective of working as one entity in the interest of developing the school and building capacity amongst students and the association is exclusively for educational advancement and charitable initiatives”, she added.

According to her, “with the involvement in the school through the years, the members of the association have been able to make a difference in the lives of current and past students.

“Our achievements so far include the awards of scholarships to deserving students of the school, furnishing more than six classrooms of the old building with chairs and tables, presentation of ten thousand notebooks to all students (six notebooks per student) presentation of startup tool kits to fifteen deserving vocational students and sponsoring inter- house sports for the past four years.”

The chairman, Board of Technical and vocational Education in Edo State, Prince Monday Eson who led other members of the board to the presentation ceremony commended the Old students for the donation and advised the students and staff of the institution to imbibe a maintenance culture.

A pioneer Vice Principal of Benin Technical College, Mr Pogoson from 1974 to 1977 was the special guest of honour at the ceremony attended by other dignitaries, students, teachers and old students of the institution.
