Sports enthusiasts applaud Obaseki on ultra-modern indoor complex

BENIN CITY – Sportsmen and women, who participated in the maiden edition of the Pastor Charles Osazuwa Grassroot Tennis Tournament, have applauded Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki-led administration for its investment in sporting infrastructure in the state.

A cross section of the over 100 sports enthusiasts, who took part in the three-day tennis tournament, said the ultra-modern indoor sports hall at the Samuel Ogbemudia provides youths an opportunity to train and improve their skills in karate, lawn tennis, table tennis, swimming and Judo.

The Edo State Government undertook a massive reconstruction of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, which led to the rebuilding of the ultra-modern Olympic-sized Swimming pool, indoor sports hall, a gymnasium, 5-court lawn tennis court, among others.

On his part, Pastor Charles Osazuwa, said, “I want to appreciate the Executive Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu for giving us this wonderful venue.

“The participants are in awe of what has happened here. We are complementing the role of the state government to encourage sports development among youths through facilities such as this. This is why we decided to organize this tennis tournament.

One of the participants, Kabiru Habib, said “I really appreciate Pastor Charles Osazuwa for the fantastic effort he has made as it relates to development of table tennis in the state with the impressive organization witnessed at the tournament.”

Mr. Bright Jomoh, another participant, said with the facilities at the indoor sports hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, there is no sporting event that cannot be hosted in Edo State, noting that it serves as an encouragement for stakeholders such as Pastor Charles Osazuwa to invest in sports development and talent discovery in the state.
