Edo govt intensifies case search, POI tracking in communities …insists on compulsory use of facemasks in schools, public places

BENIN CITY – The Edo State is intensifying efforts to curtail the spread of the second wave of coronavirus (COVID-19) with huge successes recorded in its contact tracing, Persons of Interest (POI) tracking, active case search, among other activities to contain the pandemic across all communities in the state.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this in a virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

According to him, the state government has taken serious steps to contain the COVID-19 pandemic and protect Edo people.

He noted that while contact tracing and line-listing are on-going in all affected local government areas (LGAs) in the state, active case search and POIs tracking are ongoing in all the state’s 18 LGAs.

Obi, who decried the rise in the number COVID-19 related deaths in the state, noted that Edo is facing a more violent strain of the virus in the second wave of the pandemic than the first.

Reiterating the need to ensure compliance with health and safety protocols to guard against the spread of the second wave of the virus, the Incident Manager said, “As government intensifies efforts to contain the spread of this disease in our communities, we urge you to comply with all laid down directives, aimed at keeping you safe and healthy.

“Observe social distancing guidelines and other precautionary measures against the spread of the infectious disease, including regular handwashing with soap under running water and the use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers. Cover your mouth and nose properly when sneezing and/or coughing.

“Schools across the state have resumed and our joint monitoring team, which includes security, health officials and those in the education sector, are going round to ensure that basic, secondary schools and higher Institutions comply with various guidelines and protocols against the spread of the second wave of the pandemic,” he added.
