Edo State, as part of efforts to contain the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, has intensified the vaccination of residents across the state’s 18 local government areas, vaccinating 2,568 persons in the last 24 hours.
Executive Secretary of the state’s Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Julie Erhabor, disclosed this during the daily virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.
Erhabor noted that the state has trained and activated 12 more special teams for the vaccine rollout in Edo South Senatorial District to increase its vaccination coverage and break the chain of transmission of COVID-19.
She said Edo currently has 103 teams for the rollout of the vaccine, including 62 fixed centres and 41 temporary fixed posts, adding that each of the 103 teams are expected to vaccinate over 60 persons daily.
Noting that the state is committed to ensuring that every eligible person is inoculated against the infectious disease, Erhabor said Edo has so far vaccinated 10, 052 persons since the rollout of the vaccine in the state.
Meanwhile, the State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, noted that the state was recording remarkable success in the management of the pandemic, as the state continues to witness a decline in case positivity and fatality rates.
He said the state, in the last 24 hours, recorded two new cases of COVID-19 reported from the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) and Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) laboratories.
Obi noted that the state, within the 24-hour period, collected 119 samples and recorded 15 recoveries and no death, with 56 active cases that are being managed at various treatment and isolation facilities in the state.
The Incident Manager disclosed that the state has so far collected 21, 658 samples and recorded 2050 recoveries, 2175 confirmed cases, 73 deaths and 410 health workers infection since December 01, 2020 when the state started tracking the second wave of the pandemic.
Noting that the government is committed to containing the spread of the virus and ensuring safety of residents, Obi said surveillance and case management as well as monitoring and enforcement of guidelines are currently ongoing across the state’s 18 local councils.
