BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government has stepped up public awareness on the ongoing vaccination exercise against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, across major cities in the state’s 18 local government areas.

The government team kicked off the enlightenment tour in Edo North from Etsako West, through Etsako East, Etsako Central and Owan West, visiting motor parks, markets and other public spaces, to intimate the people on the need to take the vaccine and break the chain of transmission of the virus.

In Edo Central Senatorial District, the team visited Esan South East, Esan North East, Esan Central and Esan West LGAs.

In Edo South Senatorial District, Egor, Oredo, Ikpoba-Okha, were covered.

The coordinator of the team in Edo North, Amedu Matthew, said the campaign was designed to encourage the health workers, the elderly and persons between 18-49 years with co-morbidities to take the vaccine.

He said, “It is important for our people to take the vaccine which is safe, free and available in the Primary Healthcare Centres close to them.”

The Coordinator in Edo Central, Daniel Emeya, said the campaign also provides opportunity to encourage the Edo people to comply with safety protocols employed to check the spread of the virus.

“It is important for people to be cautious and follow the advice by the government to halt the spread of the deadly virus. The Edo State Government has made provision for residents to take the vaccines across the 18 local council areas in the state.”
