BENIN CITY – The senior police officer reportedly abducted in Benin City has regained his freedom.

The victim, ASP Clement Amoko, serving in the State Criminal Investigation Bureau, police command headquarters, Benin City was released yesterday night after several hours in the custody of his abductors.

Inside source said ransom was paid before he was freed.

The source did not disclose the amount but stated that the money was transferred into his private account as earlier demanded by the kidnappers.

It was learnt that the armed men used their victim’s phone to demand the ransom.

It was also gathered that the gunmen may have trekked to ASP Clement Amoko’s residence as they whisked him away in his own private vehicle.

Unconfirmed reports said his vehicle was recovered somewhere in Ekehuan road after it was abandoned by the kidnappers.

Attempts to obtain comments from ASP Clement Amoko failed as his daughter said he was sleeping.

He was said to have been tortured by his abductors who were hooded throughout the operation.

The Public Relations Officer, Edo Police Command DSP Osaigbovo Princewill confirmed the release.

It will be recalled that ASP Clement Amoko was on Sunday, March 7, 2021 quietly abducted in his residence at Iguikpe road, Useh Quarters, Benin City.
