Benin – Athletes and the officials at the 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) holding in Benin were, on Sunday, subjected to COVID-19 tests at the games village, on the University of Benin campus.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the tests, being conducted by officials of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), was to determine the COVID-9 status of all the athletes and officials participating in the sports fiesta.

While, Dr Biodun Ogunniyi, an official of the NCDC, declined comment, an athlete from Bauchi state told NAN that athletes were undergoing another round of tests at the games village, even though they did one before leaving their state.

“This is second time we would do the test. We did one before we left our state and we are being subjected to another one here. Without this, we will not be cleared for the games”, he said.

The NSF, tagged Edo 2020, is holding between April 2 and 14, after several postponements, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
