LAGOS – President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Usman Alkali Baba as acting Inspector General of police.

Alkali Baba immediately replaces Mohammed Abubakar Adamu who was on official visit to Imo State to ascertain the level of damage caused by the unknown gun men that invaded the State command and the Correction center where over 1,500 inmates were set free during mayhem.

The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi who disclosed this on Tuesday said the president had on the 4th of February, extended the tenure of Mohammed Adamu as the Inspector General of Police for three months out of which the erstwhile police boss spent two months and three days.

However, mixed reactions greet the replacement as some people fault the President for not allowing IGP Adamu to return from the official visit to Imo State.

Others who condemned the tenure of the retired IGP saw it as good omen for the country, saying “Adamu out will allow fresh brain and initiative to combat the crime in the country.
