BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government has kicked off coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination campaign for private and public school teachers across the state’s 18 local government areas ahead of schools’ reopening on Monday, May 10, 2020.
The Edo State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the weekend in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
He explained that the exercise is part of efforts by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration to contain the pandemic and ensure the health and safety of citizens.
Obi said the vaccination exercise for the teachers, which commenced on Saturday, May 08, 2021 will end on May 14, 2021, when the state will round off the first phase of the vaccination.
The Incident Manager further urged residents to key into the window for the first phase of vaccination and get inoculated against the deadly virus.
Obi disclosed that vaccination is ongoing in the state at fixed locations, including the premises of the Edo State Ministry of Health, the Hospitals Management Board, Central Hospital, Immigration Office and the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), as well as other mobile posts.
According to him, “Edo State Government has commenced the vaccination of all teachers in the state ahead of schools’ resumption for Monday, May 10, 2021. With the campaign, the government will ensure the compulsory vaccination of all teachers as frontline workers against COVID-19.
“We urge teachers to cooperate with the staff of the Ministry of Health who will be on ground to administer the vaccines to teachers in their schools. Also, Heads of schools are to ensure strict compliance to the COVID-19 protocols, which include compulsory use of face mask and regular hand washing amongst others as non-pharmaceutical equipment have earlier been distributed to all schools.”
