OKADA (OVIA-NORTH-EAST) – The Edo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Abiodun Olubukola has faulted calls for the scrapping of the scheme, saying that scrapping it would not be in the best interest of the country.

Disclosing this at the orientation camp, Okada in Ovia-North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, during the 48 years anniversary of the scheme, Mrs Olubukola said that the scheme has made numerous contributions to the country.

She disclosed that it has always equipped corps members with the right attitude before going into the labour market.

According to her, NYSC is proffering solutions to unemployment in the country through its entrepreneurship programme where corps members are trained on various skills to be self reliant and employer of labour .

“Today is a landmark in the history of NYSC; we have corps members in the 774 local governments of the country, making impact in all aspects of the economy; be it health, agriculture, education among others.

“Aside unifying the nation, NYSC stands as first succour to corps members who just graduated from higher institution before the labour market.

“So, scraping the scheme is not in the best interest of the country.”

She commended the State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki for providing a befiting orientation camp for corps members as well as providing the scheme with a 250KVA power generating set to power the camp.

She advised the corps members to leave their foot print in their places of primary assignment.
