BENIN CITY – Stakeholders irregular migration and trafficking in persons have tasked government at all levels to create an investment friendly environment as a means to discouraging irregular migration.

At a video contents screening session organised in Benin City by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the stakeholders also tasked the affluents in the society to channel their resources towards what will impact the society positively.

The session was the climax of a-4 day workshop on content creation, video editing and photography organised for Migrants as Messengers (MaM), a peer review project where returned migrants raise awareness among their peers and communities on safe migration pathways and irregular migration.

It was meant to access the impact of audio-visual messaging contents as an awareness raising approach on issues of irregular migration and trafficking in persons.

It was in response to finding home grown solutions to address the scourge of irregular migration, trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants.

It was observed that while traveling is a legal and viable venture to embark on, it should be done with adequate preparation and with the right information on the process and destination country.

While calling on returned migrants to acquire skills, the stakeholders also tasked them to invest their little fund in businesses that can add value to their lives.
