BENIN CITY – The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has installed 40,000 meters for its customers across its franchise states of Edo, Delta, Ekiti and Ondo as at July, 2021

The figure, according to the Managing Director/CEO of the distribution company, Mrs Funke Osibodubu is among the 54,198 it has received out of the 75,870 allocated for distribution to customers under the National Mass Metering Programme (NMMP).

Generally, she said that the NMMP has been proceding well, but slowed down a bit during the raining season, adding that the next phase would soon commence.

She said that BEDC was installing metres on pole to reduce the incidences of byepas and other forms of energy theft which is prevalent in the network.

According to her, despite the COVID-19 induced interruption, between year 2020 and date, BEDC has commissioned some projects to boost network infrastructure and improve power availability to customers in the franchise states.

On Commmunity Relations, she said that between 2019 and early this year, the company has connected 108 transformers back to the national grid across the franchise states.

Of the number, she said that 34 were in Edo, 55 in Delta, 12 in Ondo while seven were in Ekiti states respectively.

She expressed as worrisome, the increasing cases of vandalism across the franchise states, with the vandals continuously innovating new approaches.

She disclosed that plans are on to introduce and enroll customers on e.billing platform across the states.
