BENIN CITY – The Executive Committee of FIBA Africa in agreement with FIBA has said that Nigerian Rivers Hoops would not be retained to participate in the final phase of the BAL.

This was contained in a letter addressed to the Minister President, Musa Kida Nigerian Basketball Federation by Secretary General FIBA, FIBA Africa Regional Director, Bilie Alphonse.

The letter read in part: ” I would like to inform you that the Executive Committee of FIBA Africa, in agreement with FIBA, decided at its least session that the Nigerian Rivers Hoops Club is not retained to participate in the final phase of the BAL”.

“As the Nigerian Basketball Federation has not confirmed that it’s has own initiative ensured the effective organization of a regular national Championship this session, FIBA ensured the effective organization this session, FIBA Africa cannot therefore authorize the participation of a Nigerian Club in the BAL this year” the statement said,

The development could not be unconnected with the face-off between Federal Ministry and Musa Kiss’s Nigeria Basketball Federation which also led to the indefinite postponement of the Federation’s election.

How soon with the organizational issues in NBBF would be resolved, only time will tell.
