A Federal High Court sitting in Benin City has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to maintain status quo with respect to the submission of candidates list from the congress recently conducted by the party in Edo State.
It would be recalled that the PDP conducted parallel congresses across the state to elect candidates to fly its flag for the House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senatorial elections
His Lordship, Hon Justice S.M Shaibu of the Federal High Court 1, Benin City who gave the order noted that once a matter is before the court, parties should maintain status quo and he adjourned to July 18, 2022 for hearing of the substantive matter.
“This matter is in court and it is as good as maintaining status quo. There should be no dilemma because parties are on notice of the case. Everybody should hands off and people should not play to the gallery,” His lordship warned.
He further ordered both parties not to take any step, adding that, “nobody should resort to self help until the determination of the matter in court before him.”
