Warri – An aide to the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has been shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.

The deceased, Mr Cyril Mudiagbe, popularly called Cyril Makanaki, was a popular member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 6 in Sapele.

It was gathered that Makanaki was hacked to death between Saturday night and early Sunday in his house in Decima area of the town and was found in the pool of his blood Sunday morning.

There was palpable tension in the area occasioned by the dastardly act as security operatives, including men of the vigilance group, are combing the area to unravel the suspects.

A resident identified as one Lucky claimed that the gunmen were robbers, saying “they came to rob. They first went to the plaza opposite the house before coming to this place.”

Another neighbour, Eniagbe, said the gunmen shot the deceased through the window.

“They were banging his window and when he opened his window, he was shot in the chest,” he claimed”.

There are insinuations in some quarters that, the killers operated like hired assassins as nothing was allegedly taken from the deceased.

“The unknown gunmen came directly to the late Cyril Makanaki’s apartment and instructed him to open the door for them, which the late Cyril refused.

“The unknown gunmen forcefully gained entrance by breaking the door into the apartment and shot him.

“This looks like an assassination because the late Cyril was not robbed of anything.

“He was rushed to a private hospital where the doctor on duty confirmed him dead” on arrival.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Command, Bright Edafe hasn’t confirmed the incident.
