WARRI – The Student Union Government (SUG) of the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, has confirmed the death of two students in the Matrix Energy Tank Farm fire accident contrary to earlier statement made by the Energy firm.

The two students were among the five persons who drowned while fleeing the scene of last Friday inferno at Matrix Energy Group.

The SUG made the disclosure in a statement mourning the deceased in Warri on Monday.

They were said to be on an industrial attachment (IT) with the energy firm when the incident occurred.

The NIGERIAN OBSERVER gathered that the bodies of the five persons, whose identities weren’t disclosed, were found floating in the river near the energy facility three days after the inferno.

The PTI SUG identified the two IT students as Comrade Omare Sunny of the department of Mechanical Engineering and Comrade Godstime Chuks of the department of Petroleum Engineering.
Both are National Diploma graduates of Petroleum Training Institute (PTI).

Until the five bodies were recovered, Matrix Energy had earlier released a statement to the effect that there were no casualty.

In its statement, the PTI SUG, has, however, urged Matrix Energy Group to debunk the “misguided information” they earlier released and immediately do the needful by reaching out to families of the deceased students.
