Former Head of States and Chairman National Peace Committee, retired Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, has advised Nigerians not to sell their voters card during the 2023 general elections.

Abubakar spoke to newsmen at the end of a closed door meeting of the National Peace Committee in Minna on Thursday.
“I appeal to Nigerians, especially the electorate, to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner as the programme of electoral process is about to start.
“Don’t sell your votes but vote for credible leaders that will provide basic infrastructure to enhance the wellbeing of Nigerians,” Abdulsalami said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that campaign by the presidential and National Assembly candidates would start by Sept. 28 while that of governorship and State House of Assembly candidates is expected to start by Oct. 12.
Abubakar said that it was only through the peaceful conduct of elections that credible and honest representatives would emerge.
“If we want to have it good, we must work towards electing responsible leaders to manage our national resources,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to shun violence in order to achieve the desired objectives of having good democratic governance in the country.
He also called on politicians, especially those seeking elective positions, to mobilise their supporters against violence and to play by the rules during and after elections.
Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Indepedent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, said that the commission was fully prepared to conduct free, fair and credible elections.
He also called on politicians to cooperate with the commission for the successful implementation of the various electoral process.
He appealed to the media to sensitive eligible Nigerians to the dangers involved in political violence and thuggery.
“We at the commission are battle ready to provide a level-playing ground for the smooth implementation of all the electoral processes,” he said.
NAN reports that Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar, Etsu Nupe Yahaya Abubakar, Bishop Hassan Kukah, retired Gen. Martins Agwai and Alhaji Yayale Ahmed attended the meeting.(NAN)
