Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has enjoined government at all levels, individuals and corporate organizations to contribute their quota towards effective policing in Nigeria.

The Deputy Governor made the call during the commissioning of blocks of renovated106 flats, 54 self-contained apartments with perimeter fencing, two industrial boreholes and solar lightings at the Police Mobile Force, Ogida Barracks, Benin City.

The projects were funded and executed by Rosula Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, founded by renowned philanthropist and Edo citizen, Princess Dr.Mrs. Rosemary Osula Mku-Atu.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Shaibu commended the donor for her contributions towards the welfare of the needy, less-privileged members of society and institutions across Nigeria.

He affirmed that the philanthropic gestures exhibited by the Founder of Rosula Foundation was highly commendable as it posed a great challenge to government and private individuals.

According to him, “we can attest to the fact that Rosula is one person who has decided to give back to society for the rest of her life and she is very passionate about it”.

“When we have people like her, it therefore means that, there is hope for the future, because a lot of people are gasping to have that which is called ‘hope’. People like her give hope to the younger generation”.

“We as individuals and government must as a matter of necessity, encourage the police force by giving them their due respect and preferences at all times and places”.

Shaibu added: “the beneficiaries of these structures must also ensure they give it good maintenance to avoid further degeneration”, Shaibu added

Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of the occasion and former Inspector General of Police, Dr. Solomon Arase,IGP Rtd.,thanked Princess Mrs. Mku – Atu, “for displaying such height of philanthropy”, while asserting that “the projects will go a long way to improving the morale and commitment of the Police in the area”.

Giving an overview of Rosula Foundation intervention in the barracks, the Barracks Commander, ACP Rabiu Habibu, appreciated the donor for her quick intervention, adding that “this is to also encourage all and sundry to contribute their own quota to the encouragement and motivation of the Nigeria Police Force”.

The Inspector General of Police who was represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta, expressed gratitude to the Chairperson of Rosula Foundation for her patriotism, support and assistance in enhancing the morale and well-being of personnel of the Nigeria Police, particularly 5 Squadron, Police Mobile Force, Benin City.

Also speaking, the donor, who was represented by the Coordinator of Rosula Foundation, Mr. Idahosa Ajayi, said that “Mrs.Rosemary Osula Mku-Aku was inspired to give back to the society, especially the Police Force, because security is everyone’s business,as the police is a friend”.

She appealed to the beneficiaries to make good use and maintean the facilities, while assuring of Rosula Foundation continuous support in other projects.
