Benin City: The First Lady of Edo State, Her Excellency, Betsy Obaseki has charged medical practitioners to take their profession as a calling and treat their patients with care and the professionalism that accords value to human life.

The Edo State First Lady gave the charge while declaring open a one day capacity building workshop for students at the Edo State College of Nursing Sciences in Benin City.

Her Excellency who was accompanied on the visit by Edo State Commissioner for Health Pro. Obehi Akoria, and other top health officials in the State also Commissioned the Institution’s new Information Communications Technology (ICT) Hub.

Addressing the students during the capacity building workshop, Her Excellency Betsy Obaseki urged them to recognise that they are valuable and encourage them to place human life above pecuniary benefits.

She lauded the upgraded infrastructure in the school, noting that the Institution is now adjudged to be the best in West Africa. “This Institution has been adjudged to be the best in West Africa. I am confidence that this Institution will replicate same in the quality of graduates they produced from the school”.

The Edo State Commissioner for Health Pro. Obehi Akoria who also spoke at the occasion urge for humility among healthcare practitioners.

She said “our profession calls for humility and as we merge humility with professionalism Edo State will become the trail blazer in the healthcare space globally and they will be saying ‘that is a heart doctor, that is a heart nurse, no wonder, they come from the Heartbeat of Nigeria’”.

Earlier the Provost of the Institution Professor Patricia Ukaigwe said they currently have 500 students in the institution.

She described the First Lady of Edo State Her Excellency Betsy Obaseki as the Champion of the School for her immense contribution to developments in the health sector.
