BENIN CITY-The police in Edo State have detained two secondary school students over assault on a teacher in Benin City, Edo State Capital.

The detention of the students emerged from the ongoing investigation into students disturbances recorded at Aduwawa Secondary School, Benin City on Thursday, November 24, 2022.

The commissioner of police in Edo State CP Mohammed Dankwara has directed that case file be transferred immediately to the State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, Police Command Headquarters, Benin City for further action.

CP Dankwara also advised parents and guardians of students who were involved in the students uproar to produce their children or wards to the police as efforts have been intensified to track down other fleeing suspects.

The police chief assured the public particularly parents and guardians of students of Aduwawa Secondary School to remain calm as normalcy has been restored in the institution.

The Public Relations Officer for Edo State Police Command SP Chidi Nwabuzor stated this in a statement made available to Journalists via the command official WhatsApp page at 10:33 a.m on Friday, November 25, 2022.

“The CP’s assurance came against the backdrop of the unrest at Aduwawa Secondary School on Thursday, 24th November, 2022, that was perpetrated by some students of the school, who preliminary investigation reveals, were dissatisfied with disciplinary measures being taken by a female teacher in the school against some female students during an English language class.

“The CP stated that two female students identified as the prime suspects in the assault on the teacher and the eventual uproar in the school have been detained and efforts to arrest other fleeing suspects is ongoing.

“Meanwhile, the CP has directed the Divisional Police Officer Aduwawa Division, to transfer the case file to the State Criminal Investigation Department Benin, after a preliminary investigation for further Investigation.
