Teach a child the way to go and when he comes of age he won’t depart from it, says the bible. Not many people uphold this doctrine even at the family level. However evangelist Mercy Akpituren holds it with passion in her heart. Also, she has a roadmap for successful Christian marriage. In this interview, she bares her mind on these issues to MIKE ODIGBE
Insight into her biography
I am evangelist Mercy Akpituren, an ordained deaconess. My ministry is called Children Evangelical Squad Outreach. It is not attached to a church but is a ministry of its own based in Benin City. I was a worker with Bendel Civil Service. When Delta state was created on august 27, 1991, I moved over to Asaba still as a civil servant. Later I retired voluntarily to have time to pursue the ministry fully in 2006.
When I was in the civil service, I was involved part-time with the ministry around 2001
Call to the ministry
My pastor asked me to take up children Sunday school teaching. I accepted the challenge. As I taught the children, I discovered their delinquent character. They were so wicked and never understood what life or living in the spirit was. My experience made me to fast and while asking God for a way to handle the children’s teaching very well.
It was then I got a divine revelation on the way forward. God told me why children become demonic and possessed while in the womb.
The revelation proper
God revealed to me that children in the womb become possessed by the evil his/her parents do in their daily lives consciously or unconsciously. The child in the womb is a spirit so he/she picks up all behavior going on around him/her. If the spirit picked up from the parents is evil, he/she is born with that evil spirit. That is why such a child does evil in life. He or she becomes a criminal.
It is based on this revelation I decided to set up my ministry to assist in eliminating evil spirits in children in their parents and in marriages.
My happy moments
It is when people come to testify how God has used my ministry to bless their lives. On one occasion, a pregnant woman came for ministration on my office. I prayed with her. Then I anointed her womb, an act which she accepted joyfully.
Later on, she delivered a bouncing baby girl to the glory of God. In her testimony, contained in one of my books, she told me she was always having miscarriages. According to her, she had miscarriages anytime a strange man comes to sleep with her at night in her dream. In other words, she had a spiritual husband which was aborting her babies.
Following my prayers with her as well as the anointing of her womb, her spiritual husband was banished. She got her freedom. Her testimony gave me joy. It strengthened my faith in my ministry’s mission and vision to liberate this generation and future ones from the kingdom of darkness.
Published books
I have spiritual books in the market since I started writing. The books are “life in the womb”, “foundation for marital bliss… and establishing a united family.”
The first book explains how children acquire evil while in the womb. In the case of the second book, I discussed what people going into Christian marriage should know. I tell them in the book that it is wrong to borrow everything from the western ideas of marriage, forgetting that we are Africans. It is no use behaving like a white woman in black Africa. Such an attitude won’t work here. Never!
That is why Christian marriages today are collapsing in great numbers. In the days of our parents things were not like this. An African should behave like an African. Let’s follow our culture in what we do both in marriages and other things. We can modernize our ways but that doesn’t mean we should throw away all our culture and traditions. Some are good and some are bad.
For instance, I don’t see why a modern woman should not kneel down to greet her husband, mother-in-law or father-in-law. It is God that gave us our culture and traditions. If you completely throw them away, it means you have thrown God away. That is abomination. All these issues are what I raised in “Foundation For Marital Bliss” one of my books.
Why I chose to write
God asked me to put down in books the revelations he gave me during my fast and prayers when I was confronted with the problem of the evil children I was teaching during Sunday school. I never thought I would ever write a book in my life. But since I got the divine instruction to do so, I had to do so to enable todays and future generations know about the revelations God gave me.
Message for Christian and other Nigerians
God always provides for his anointed one. My case is an example. After God gave me a ministry, he choose a location in Benin for me. That is how I came to be at Akara junction area of lucky way in Benin City. It is a popular place in Ikpoba Hill. The words “Akara” and “lucky way” symbolize God’s good tidings for anyone going to Irekpita Street where I live and minister to the needy.
On a final note, my message also is let stop borrowing everything that is foreign. Not all items in a foreign culture suit us in Africa. Also, let’s learn to speak our native language. It is not a mark of civilization to throw away our language in preference for foreign ones. Home is home. Our language is our language. We are destroying the work of God when we and our children don’t speak our language. That’s the truth.
