The Police in Benin have arrested a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) along with four others for their alleged involvement in cult activities.
The 2009/2010 batch A corps member who identified himself as Audu Bashiru, 23, a graduate of Business Administration/management studies from the Federal Polytechnic Auchi, Edo State whose place of primary assignment is said to be King’s Square primary school in Akoko local Government Council of Ogun State, was nabbed with a locally made loaded pistol along with his colleagues around Upper Sakponba Road, Benin City.
Police sources further revealed that Audu further allegedly joined his colleagues in Benin City with the motive to participate in a foiled cult war at the university of Benin (UNIBEN) last two weeks.
Though, it was not immediately ascertained whether the corps member absconded or was permitted to travel out of his state of primary assignment, sources however hinted the NIGERIAN OBSERVER that their arrest was as a result of intelligence gathering within and outside Edo state.
Others arrested with him are Innocent Ogiadhomo, a diploma graduate of UNIBEN, Chima Mnbachu, 28, Stephen Imasogie,23 and Mamiud Hudu, 26.
Items paraded with them included three laptops, 40 handsets, a locally made pistol and one life catridge.
Admitting to be a member of the Neo-black of Africa (Black-Axe), the corps member and his colleagues stated that they were trying to settle a dispute between two of their colleagues when the police swooped on them and the loaded gun was found with one of them.
They however denied knowledge of a planned cult war at UNIBEN>
Advising youths to desist from criminal activities, the spokesman, Edo police command, ASP Peter Ogboi stated that they would be charged to court upon completion of police investigation.
