House Receives Petition From EBS Staff

BENIN CITY- Edo State House of Assembly yesterday received a petition from one Mr. Paul Ero alleging his unlawful removal by the Acting General Manager of Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), Mr. Pius Ehimen, as the Ag. General Manager (Engineering).


In the petition read at the floor of the House yesterday the petitioner said the appointment of one Mr. Joseph Oizemende who is sixth in hierarchy of the Engineering section of the broadcasting station was done in bad fate by the Acting General Manager.


He stated that the Acting Manager failed to put in motion machinery to investigate the observations contained in his letter and also that his (petitioner) response before taking his decision.


Mr. Ero also noted that the Ag. General Manager had no statutory power to appoint an Assistant General Manager to head any department without clearance from the Supervisory Ministry or the Board, which is not in place.


According to the petitioner, “He (Ag Gm) cannot be a judge in his own court which is against the principle of natural justice.


The petitioner therefore solicited the assistance of the Parliament that justice was done by returning the position of the headship of Engineering Department to the most senior management staff on an acting capacity.


Upon the receipt of the petition, the Speaker Rt Hon. Zakawanu Garuba referred it to the House standing committee on public petition.
