A former President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), Rotimi George-Taylor, on Saturday urged that boxing administrators and enthusiasts should pay more attention to the development of the sport.
George -Taylor made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.
He commended the efforts of the Lagos State Government in sustaining boxing by providing equipment for the stateís boxers to train and participate in competitions.
“Lagos State is not doing badly; it just provided a new boxing ring for boxers to train with, but this is not enough to say that things are the way they should be.
“I know things are not what they used to be especially with the insurgency in some parts of the country, but sports, especially boxing, remain a means through which youths could channel their energy.
“More attention should be given to the development of boxing in the country; by so doing, we can create more jobs for the nationís teeming youths,” George-Taylor said.
He added that more gymnasiums should be provided for boxers to train, in addition to employment of a knowledgeable foreign coach to tutor budding talents.
“We need a foreign coach to keep our boxers abreast of current trends
