Sergio Busquets says Barcelona are physically weak following their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Real Sociedad on Sunday.
Jordi Alba headed into his own net in the first half following a cross into the box from Sergio Canales, as Barca conceded yet again from a set-piece delivery.
Though the diminutive nature of the club’s playing squad has been a key role in their success in years gone by, Busquets believe it is at the heart of their immediate problems.
The midfielder said: “We haven’t started the year well. People say it is normal to lose but it isn’t for us. We don’t have physically strong or tall players and that has cost us at corner-kicks.”
The defeat was all the more diffuclt to take after leaders Real Madrid had been beaten by Valencia earlier on Sunday, paving the way for Barca to overtake them at the top of La Liga.
The fixture list doesn’t get any easier for Luis Enrique’s side either with Thursday’s clash against Elche followed by a league clash with reigning champions Atletico Madrid.
“The results over the weekend have benefited Atletico. We have to improve against them and we must be self-critical. We cannot afford to make the same mistakes again.”
