BENIN CITY – The Edo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the other fleeing gunmen who shot and beheaded an octogenarian Pa. Osayande Goodluck Uwumarogie at Irhirhi Village, Oredo Local Government Area, near Benin City, last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the command said it has apprehended two suspects in connection with the murder of Pa. Uwumarogie.
Spokesman of the command, DSP Joseph Edogiawerie disclosed during an exclusive chat with our crime reporters in his office, Benin City yesterday.
DSP Edogiawerie disclosed that the case has been taken over by top investigators at the homicide wing of the state police command Headquarters in Benin City.
He however expressed confidence in the ability of the seasoned officers to unmask and bring perpetrators to Justice.
DSP Edogiawerie enjoined members of the public, particularly family members and kinsmen of the deceased to come forth with useful information that could enhance ongoing investigation.
Pa. Osayande Goodluck Uwumarogie, deputy head (Odionwere) of Aruogba Community also in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo was shot and his head severed from his body and taken away by his assailants.
He was said to have escaped from his ancestral home in Aruogba Community when hoodlums rained terror on the community last November.
He was however traced to his in-law’s residence in Irhirhi Village where he had taken refuge.
His wife, Julie, 55 stated that her husband was killed over land dispute in Aruogba Community.
She alleged that a man had earlier threatened to kill her husband.
“After we ran away from the village in the middle of the crisis to seek refuge at my father’s village at Irhirhi, the same man saw him here and said he would still kill him.
It would be recalled that the youth leader of the Aruogba Community, Mr. Okoro Ogbaretin was shot dead early this month allegedly by a gunmen who ambushed him in the community.
