EVBOKABUA (ORHIONMWON) – A former House of Representatives aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State Hon. Saturday Uwuilekhue-Idehen has formally pitched tent with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Orhionmwon Local government area.
The defector and the former Vice Chairman of the council, Hon. Samson Omoruyi with hundreds of their supporters were received by the Edo Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Egberanmwen Odubu and other big shots of the party at Evbuokabua, Iyoba ward, Orhionmwon Local Government Area, Edo State.
The deputy governor thanked Hon. Uwuilekhue-Idehen and Hon. Omoruyi for their courage and decision to return to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Dr. Odubu said the APC is populated by change agents.
He remarked that the party has brighter prospects as the APC now controls 14 states in Nigeria, thus giving the party’s presidential flagbearer, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari the needed leverage to emerge victorious in next month’s election.
He appealed to the people of the ward to come out en-masse on February 14 and 28 to cast their votes for the APC candidates at all levels.
State publicity secretary of the party, Comrade Godwin Erhahon said Hons. Saturday Uwailekhue-Idehen and Samson Omoruyi were misled to join the PDP and appreciated their decision to retrace their steps early enough.
APC chairman in the local government area,  Chief Matthew Ehigie said their return to the APC would further boost the chances of the party in the forthcoming elections.
Hons. Uwuilekhue-Idehen and Samson Omoruyi in their separate remarks, expressed their readiness to collaborate with other members in efforts to achieve a resounding victory in the forthcoming polls.
They extolled the leadership of Dr. Odubu which, according to Hon. Uwuilekhue-Idehen has brought about the needed strength of the party in the area.
Meanwhile, no fewer than 220 members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ugo, Orhionmwon Local Government Area Edo State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Chairman of APC in the local government area Chief Matthew Ehigie received the defectors into the party.
Receiving the former members of  PDP, the Orhionmwon APC chairman assured the defectors of equal rights and privileges as other members of the party.
Chief Ehigie described the APC as a moving train and expressed happiness over their desire and decision to shift their support to the ruling APC in the state.
He said that the defection means that Ugo zone remains the stronghold of the party in the area.
The defectors and their spokespersons including Messrs Monday Shankpa, Osadolor Hope, Efebi Egbe and Joseph Ameze said they were motivated by the state government’s performance in Orhionmwon.
Ward Chairman Mr. Theophilus Obasuyi later issued APC party cards to the defectors.
