LAGOS – A sales representative of a Lagos-based company, Christopher Lukpata, was docked at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing N370, 000.
Twenty-two-year-old Lukpata, whose address was unknown, is standing trial for stealing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Samuel Ishola, told the court that the accused committed the offence on December 23 at 8.00 a.m. at No. 27/29, Adeyemo Alakija St., Victoria Island, Lagos.
Ishola alleged that the accused stole N370, 000 belonging to his employer — Thames Shipping Company.
According to him, the accused failed to remit the money being proceeds from sales into the company’s account.
The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Reports state that Section 285 provides three years imprisonment for stealing.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Daniel Abbe, urged the court to grant the accused bail on liberal terms.
Ruling on the bail application, the Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Oladipekun, admitted him to a bail of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties must reside in Lagos and must be gainfully employed.
She adjourned the case to January 15, 2015, for mention.
