IBADAN – Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Oyo State, has promised traders in the state a robust economy and empowerment, if re-elected.
Alao-Akala, a former governor in the state, gave the promise during his market/community rally in Ibadan.
He also pledged that his administration would not deny traders their rights, adding that he would make sure their interests were catered for.
The market women urged the governorship candidate to halt demolition of shops, if he wins the election again.
Mrs Rashidat Busari, popularly known as ‘Iya Biliki’ at Ita-merin market, expressed concern at the low rate of patronage since the demolition of some shops.
She said that the demolition plunged many traders into huge debts among other financial problems.
She said that she and her fellow traders yearned for change of government in the state.
“We want a change of government. We want a government that will give us loans and support our business,’’ she said.
Chief (Mrs.) Idowu Oyetade and Alhaji Bashir Olarewaju, commended the feat recorded by Alao-Akala during his first term in office and pledged their support for his re-election.
Other traders who spoke at the rally, called on the candidate to build more shops and sink boreholes for them.
They also solicited for loans and other assistance to boost their business.
The Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheik Haruna Suara, commended Alao-Akala’s contributions to the development of Ibadanland during his first term and urged him not to relent in his good deeds if re-elected.
