KANO – The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kano chapter, has called for thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing of Prof. Ahmad Falaki of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Dr Rabi’u Nasiru, made the call when he addressed a news conference in Kano on Tuesday.
Nasiru said a thorough investigation was necessary in order to apprehend perpetrators of the dastardly act.
“The zone will want to make it abundantly clear that ASUU will not rest on this matter until the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice.
“The zone held emergency meeting on February 24 during which it received the report of the brutal and extra-judicial killing of Prof. Falaki,’’ he said.
Nasiru, who called for the immediate prosecution of the perpetrators of the act, also urged the Nigeria Police to immediately retract its earlier claims that late Falaki and his entourage were members of Boko Haram.
“The retractions must be widely published in the National Dailies.
“The outcome of the investigation must also be made public and officially communicated to ASUU,’’ Nasiru added.
According to him, the union will continue to take and pursue all legitimate political and legal actions to redress the injustice done to the slain professor of agriculture.
