IBADAN – A socio-cultural group, Yoruba Youths Congress (YYC), has advised youths to avoid politicians who may want to use them to promote violence.
Mr Ganiyu Semiu, the National Publicity Secretary of the group, gave the advice while speaking with newsmen in Ibadan.
Semiu stated that his group would not relent in sensitising youths, especially those in the South-West Zone, to ensure that politicians do not make use of them as tools of violence.
“Youths across the nation must assert that the days of politicians making use of youths as political thugs were over.
“As we canvass for increased participation of youths in politics, we must also refrain from being engaged to perpetuate electoral malpractices,” he said.
The publicity secretary, who also warned against the use of statements capable of heating up the polity, also said:
“We believe that the 2015 general elections could be devoid of violence, bloodshed and kidnapping, provided statements, written or oral, are presented with utmost caution.
“The polity is aggravated already and no true Nigerian should say anything or act in ways capable of promoting violence.’’
“Sadly, these enemies of peace will go to any length to carry out the bidding of their paymasters. They are always ready to throw morality to the winds all in the name of money.
“I am, however, glad that people are getting more enlightened. They cannot continue to call a black pot white.
“People are not fools like they have always thought and again, we are not all blind,” he added.
