BENIN CITY – Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has said the state government will employ all the applicants who scaled the hurdles of a committee set up by the state government on the recruitment of teachers.
He said this just as Chairman of the Committee, Professor Dennis Agbonlahor told Governor Adams Oshiomhole that 21,195 persons applied for teaching positions in the state.
Speaking Tuesday during the presentation of the Committee’s report to the governor, Prof. Agbonlahor said the committee invited all the applicants through short message service (sms) but only about half of the applicants eventually responded to the committee’s invitation.
According to him, a total of 9,171 of the applicants were fully involved in the screening exercise after the first stage of the computer test.
On his part, Governor Adams Oshiomhole said all those recommended by the committee, irrespective of their state of origin, will be employed.
Oshiomhole said “as it is now well known to the people of this great state, we have demonstrated through our intervention and by the quality of schools we have built both primary and secondary, that education for us is at the heart of our future.
He added, “our future lies in producing the best of human capital, and where merit is required our people would be a first choice.”
He said “You have taken us through your methodology, those who applied, how you identify those to be invited and were tested such that everyone can see for himself or herself whether he or she did well or not.
He said “I know for a fact that we still need more teachers, we still have schools without enough teachers, and this is premised on the problem of posting and corruption in the section of the ministry of education.”
He thanked members of the committee for their assistance in helping the state government to overcome the recruitment hurdle.
