BENIN CITY – The Chairman Uhunmwode Local Government Council, Hon. Roland Alari has given a pat on the back to the Idokpa Community Development Association (CDA) over its self-help initiatives.
The Council boss in an appraisal of the community’s infrastructural drive when he inspected the site for an International Market at Idokpa Community along Auchi – Abuja road by the Benin bye pass praised the community’s self-help efforts.  Speaking with The Nigerian OBSERVER during the inspection, Hon. Alari expressed gratitude to the CDA members for demonstrating patriotism by relying on self-help in virtually all infrastructure  projects so far executed in the community without waiting for government.
Against this background, he said it was imperative to visit the site in view of the large area which the market would occupy, adding that it would boost the local economy and enhance the rapid development of the local government and that of the community in particular.
While assuring that the International market would be completed on time, he expressed satisfaction at the innovation, saying that the council would extend the needed support and work in partnership with the community.
He disclosed that a committee would be raised of both council staff and community representatives to appraise the project and ensure that it meets international standard, expressing hope that it will be the biggest in the state and is also expected to boost the revenue base of the local government.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Idokpa Community Development Association, Mr. Nosa Iyawe Obamwonyi, thanked the council boss and his entourage for the visit.
He noted that Idokpa Community was a community with large economic potentials and that such a big project could not be put in place without the authority and knowledge of the council boss, who is the chief security officer in the locality.
Mr. Obamwonyi stressed that the idea of siting the International Market at Idokpa was to increase the revenue base of the local government and to also aid rapid developments in Uhunmwonde local government area.  He said that the proposed market measures 500ft by 800ft, which consist of a well equipped health centre, potable water supply, good toilet facility and police post.
He solicited the support of the local government to ensure the speedy completion of the international market in order to increase the economic viability of the community, just as he assured the council boss of the community’s assistance to make the whole of Uhunmwonde an economic hub in Africa.
The elated council boss however assured the community of the governor’s presence for the official foundation laying stone of the market.
The council boss was accompanied during the inspection by other officials from the council including the secretary to the local government.
The community’s representative included Mr. Paul Ikhui, the Vice Chairman of Idokpa Community Development Association, Mr. Ekinadose Omosigho, the CDA’s Secretary and Mr. Alex Asemota.
Others are Alhaji Isa Salihu, the interim Chairman of the Hausa Cattle Trader, and Mallam Abubakar Mohammad Yaffe, the Imam of the Hausa Community in the market and Alhaja Lovina Amina Adonor among others.
