Urhonigbe (orhionmwon) – Over 100 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Urhonigbe, Orhionmwon Local Government Area, Edo State.
The State Deputy Governor, (Dr.) Pius Egberanmwen Odubu and the APC Chairman in the Local Government Area, Chief Matthew Ehigie received the former PDP members into the APC at a rally in Urhonigbe.
Other places visited for rallies included Idunmweka and Idunmwunehen both in Urhonigbe South ward, as well as Idunmwungo and Urhomehe in Urhonigbe North.
Receiving defectors into APC during the rallies at Idunmweka and Idunmwunehen, the deputy governor emphasized that the up-coming general election is not about tribe or religion but about who can fix Nigeria.
He said the cardinal objectives of APC is to tackle corruption, create job opportunities and as well as reduce the high cost of living in Nigeria.
Dr. Odubu noted that the PDP government at the centre has failed to provide for the people’s welfare, hence the demand for change and the choice of General Muhammadu Buhari as the APC presidential flag bearer.
He presented Hon. Samson Osagie as APC candidate for Edo South Senatorial district, Hon. Patrick Aisowieren for the House of Representatives and Hon Roland Asoro for Edo State House of Assembly.
Odubu implored the people to vote for the candidates to fast-tract the development of Urhonigbe community.
Spokesmen for the defectors, Messrs Monday Osazuwa and Sunday Nowamagbe who was the constituency secretary of “Find Push” said they want to identify with the winning party in the state.
APC Chairman, Chief Matthew Ehigie assured the defectors of equal treatment with other members of the party before handing over the broom, the symbol of APC to them.
After the campaign visit to Idunmwungo in Urhomgbe North Ward, Dr. Odubu also stopped at the residence of the Okaevbo of Urhonigbe, Pa Julius Aimuyo and his Urhomehe counterpart, Chief Manson Umweni Odubu where he obtained their support and blessing for the candidates and the rallies in their domains.
