OWERRI – The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone C of the Nigeria Customs, Owerri, took delivery of 20 Patrol Jeeps for an onslaught against smugglers in the zone.
Handing over the vehicles to the various units in the zone, the Area Controller of the zone, Mr Victor Dimka, said it was aimed at covering every nook and cranny of the zone against smugglers.
Dimka said that with the number of patrol vehicles now available to the zone, smuggling would be reduced to its barest minimum.
He called on officers and men of the customs in the various units to live up to their responsibilities.
Dimka expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr Dikko Abdullahi, for providing the vehicles to the zone.
“The adage that to whom much is given, much is expected, will be played out here.
“I, therefore, advise my officers to be up and doing to make things difficult for smugglers in the zone,” he said.
The patrol jeeps were handed over to various units in Enugu, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Benin, Owerri and Asaba.
It was also reported that the information team and the protocol teams of the customs got one vehicle each.
