ANTONIO Conte said he wanted to focus on coaching Italy after a turbulent week ended with a 2-2 draw away to Bulgaria in Euro 2016 qualifying on Saturday. The Azzurri looked set for a costly defeat before debutant Eder came off the bench to curl home a wonderful equaliser with just six minutes remaining.
However, Conte remained underwhelmed after the game having been subjected to death threats from Juventus fans over the internet earlier this week.
Supporters blamed his training methods for Claudio Marchisio’s knee ligament injury, which he sustained in training on Friday, despite the Italian leading the club to three league titles during his time in charge in Turin.
“Some things obviously hurt, all I ask is that I’m allowed to work in peace,” he said after the game.
“I just want to work and do my job better to get the better results I want. I do not want to talk about it and I will remain silent.”
On his side’s performance in Sofia, Conte added: “It was a good test from all points of view: intensity, play, possession and chances.
“I’m sorry about the result because we created so many chances, although you have to translate this to goals. I did not like the result, we deserved the win.”
The draw leaves Italy second in Group H, two points behind leaders Croatia.
