LAGOS – A 29-year-old bricklayer, Ibrahim Tijani, who allegedly killed his neighbour, Bashorun Okanla, with a cutlass, was yesterday in Lagos remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons.
The Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tanimola, of an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court gave the order at the arraignment of the accused.
She said that the accused should be remanded pending legal advice from the State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The accused, who resides at Okun in Ajah area of Lagos, is facing a charge of murder.
The prosecutor, ASP Elizabeth Ekuma, had earlier told the court that the deceased had complained about the fumes coming out of he accused’ generator which was filtering into his apartment.
“An argument ensued between the duo which led Tijani to enter his room, got a cutlass which he used to attack the deceased on one of his legs and the left hand”, she said.
She further told the court that Okanla died at an undisclosed hospital as a result of the injuries he sustained from the attack.
Ekuma said the offence was committed on February. 8, at about 2.30 p.m. at Okun Ajah, Lagos.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The magistrate adjourned the case till April 15, pending advice from DPP.
