ABUJA – The Youth Alliance for Greater Africa Foundation (YAGA), an NGO, yesterday said it would organise a united walk against terrorism and electoral violence.
Mr. Gabriel Ashibi, National Coordinator of the foundation, told newsmen in an interview that the event would feature participants from all sectors and that about 500 people were expected to partake in it.
According to Ashibi, the walk was part of a project tagged: United Voice Against Terrorism and Electoral Violence and that it was in collaboration with the coalition of civil society groups.
He said the exercise was expected to take off from Apo Bridge to Eagle Square and was slated for March 14 and March 15.
He said YAGA stood for youth alliance for greater Africa based on leadership, capacity building, empowerment and advocacy.
Ashibi said the group was involved in things that had to do with governance, leadership and elections.
He said the foundation had done projects such as voter education before the recent postponement of the elections.
The national coordinator commended the Nigerian Military for the success they had so far recorded in their campaign against the Boko Haram insurgents.
“On that basis we call on all Nigerians to encourage the military and speak with a united voice to boost their morale,” he said.
Mr. Olabiyi Oluseyi, the Project Manager of YAGA, described the current distribution of the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) by INEC as “very encouraging’’.
“INEC has achieved over seventy percent distribution of the cards, which is an indication that it has gotten about fifteen percent more than the stage it was before the initial date of the election,” Oluseyi said.
