BENIN CITY – Two socio-political groups, the Edo Unity League and the Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Movement have vowed to resist any attempt to unseat Chief John Odigie-Oyegun as the national chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The groups in two separate statements issued in Benin City and made available to newsmen, said they would not tolerate any unprovoked attack on the psyche of the average Niger Deltans by anyone   or cabals, no matter their sophistication.
The statements noted that the subtle plot to sack Oyegun’s leadership was reported in the NIGERIAN TRIBUNE edition of June 15, 2015, adding that given the prolific and community based journalism credibility of The Tribune, “we believe the alleged conspiracy to unseat the APC National Chairman to be sacrosanct.
The statements urged president Muhammadu Buhari to act in line with his avowed track record of credibility and efficiency reward system by rising up as the supreme leader of the ruling APC to ensure that Chief Oyegun is not toyed with or sacrificed in the whims and caprice of the neo-Kaduna mafia in the party.
The groups also urged President Buhari to ensure that all those behind the clandestine move to sack Oyegun are sanctioned and disciplined to safeguard the sanctity of change which the APC represents.
The groups however noted that Chief Oyegun, having been a former governor and served as Permanent Secretary in the most sensitive ministries of the Federal Republic, is eminently qualified to express his inalienable right to seek the enviable position of the secretary to the Government of the Federation.
“Chief John Oyegun should be given the slot of the SGF, irrespective of those seeking to blackmail him out of this contest because, he gave his ‘All’ to the APC struggle”, the statement concluded.
