BENIN CITY – The reforms currently witnessed in the Edo State tax administration has been described as a right step in the right direction.
The President of the Chartered Institute of Nigeria (CITN), Dr. (Mrs.) Olateju Abiola  made the assertion when she led other members of the institute on a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Chief Sir Oseni Elamah in Benin City.
Dr. Abiola who took the Executive Chairman down the memory of the formation of CITN, stated that they were in Benin City for a two-day programme which featured three topics on Transfers Prizing Regulations, Withholding Tax and the Role of Technology in reforms.
While noting that during the CTTN formation, it became imperative that the withholding   tax be introduced into the Nigeria tax system, Dr. Abiola commended the state CITN for keeping the flag flying.
On his part, the Executive Chairman, Edo State Internal Revenue Service, Chief (Sir) Oseni Elamah, pointed out that the level of professional training engaged by members of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), cannot be overemphasized compared to that of CITN. He said the Sunday Okundia Training School of the EIRS was established for training staff in line with policy that would help advance tax professionalism across the country and beyond.
He maintained that government remains the only authority that administers tax laws and policies adding that the institutes have featured prominently in the tax administration of Edo State.
