BENIN CITY – The Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Dr. Simon Imuekemhe, the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Tom Uloko and the member representing Edo Central Senatorial district on the board of Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission, (EDSOGPADEC), Hon. Wellington Okoh, have commended the process of the APC Gubernatorial, flagbearer on the September 10, 2016 governorship election in the state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.
It would be recalled that the election primaries commenced by accreditation of delegates from the three senatorial districts at designated centres in Benin City.
The centres were Imaguero College for the delegates from Edo North, where Governor Adams Oshiomhole was accredited, Agbado Primary School, for the Edo South, where the deputy governor, Rt. Hon. Pius Odubu was accredited and George Central, where they state party Chairman, Barr. Anselm Ojezua was also accredited.
THE NIGERIAN OBSERVER reliably gathered that the accreditation of delegates which was aimed at determining those eligible to vote, in the process was not concluded until 4:35pm, before the voting process started at about 5:25pm following the arrival of the members of the APC Primary Election Committee headed by the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Aminu Masari.
At Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Governor Oshiomhole commenced the voting process, as a delegate, after Alhaji Masari had remarked that they were in Benin from National Headquarters of the party to ensure transparent primary that would produce the emergence of a credible and articulated flagbearer by abiding strictly by the party guidelines, saying that there are 2771, delegates of which 2,582 were accredited to vote.
At the end of exercise, Mr. Godwin Obaseki polled 1,618 votes to beat other aspirants and was duly declared the party candidate by the Alhaji Masari led Electoral Committee.
Dr. Imuekemhe, however, maintained that the transparent process was the manifestation of the desires of the party to continually effect positive change that would transform the lives of the people, noting that APC is a party with retinue of ideas for good governance.
On his part, Chief Tom Uloko described the exercise as historic and monumental, saying it is a good omen for an ideal democracy of this magnitude.
In the same vein, Hon. Wellington Okoh said that the primaries had set a template in Nigeria politics, adding that the process was hitch free as delegates voted their conscience to determine who will lead them and take the state to the next level in terms of good governance, while adjudging the APC primary election as the best since the advent of democracy as the country.
They, however, congratulated the party flagbearer, Mr. Godwin Obaseki on his landslide victory, the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and the state leadership of the party.
They, urged the good people of the state to rally support for the APC candidate to enable him and the party to come out victorious in the September 10, 2016 governorship election, just as they also advised Mr. Obaseki to work with the losers to achieve the desired results.
